Moving deeply into the amazing, self-nurturing, somatic, mind-body movement-medicine practice that is ‘Nia’, this half-day retreat is a perfect opportunity to drop into YOU, to take care of yourself from the inside-out, with whatever is present for you in the moment. This morning will give you an in-depth opportunity to connect to a specific aspect of Nia, as well as to the restorative movement of Nia as a healing-art. Movements are crafted to calm the nervous system and increase wellbeing in body, mind, heart and spirit.
Beginners as well as more seasoned Nia class attendees are very welcome to this more in-depth exploration of Nia as movement-medicine than is possible in a one hour class. No partner or previous experience required. Just come as you are, wear comfortable clothes and bring water.
Classic ‘Nia’ is the original ‘fusion-fitness’ class with a signature blend of free-form movement and simple, yet subtly transformational choreography rooted in the science and art of dance, martial arts and healing-art practices such as yoga and Alexander Technique. It is a somatic, non-impact, joyful, holistic, barefoot cardio-dance workout based on the intelligent design of the body, and is suitable for people of all ages, and fitness-levels! Guided by sensation, participants are encouraged to consciously move in their unique body’s way while organically getting fit from the inside-out! Nia leaves participants feeling alive, energized, centred and connected, inspiring one to live with mindfulness and joy! While moving to soulful and uplifting world music, classes offer a perfect balance of easy-to-follow steps (form) and space to move in one’s unique body’s way (freedom).
A ‘Moving to Heal’ class is Nia, slowed right down, and emphasizes somatic awareness using inspiring music and simple movement crafted to calm the nervous system and create a sense of wellbeing in the body, mind, heart and spirit. These classes are designed for every BODY including individuals dealing with stress, injury, long and short-term illness, movement challenges, surgery, trauma or the overwhelm of life.
Experienced, advanced-level Nia Black Belt and ‘Moving to Heal’ teacher, Yael, teaches Classic Nia and ‘Moving to Heal’ classes, workshops and retreats all over Gloucestershire and has an extensive background in music, dance and healing.
