Yin yoga focuses on the ligaments and joints, by holding static poses for a few minutes at a time. In this class you’ll consider the essential oils that relate to the energy being worked on, as well as experiencing some meditation and guided relaxation.
Often overlooked in a flowing style of yoga class, areas such as the back and hips can become stiff, and yin yoga can help with such issues. A regular yin class may also help with mental and physical tension, sleeping problems, digestive issues, and chronic body pain.
Classes are suitable for all levels: we work slowly and mindfully and use props such as bolsters and cushions.
In each class, we focus on one meridian (the energy pathways running round the body, through which “Chi” flows) and some appropriate essential oils. We will make up a simple aroma-stick, which can be inhaled during the class. We then follow a series of yin yoga poses, held for a few minutes. During this time, you are guided through which meridian you are working on, and pointed towards some of the signs of imbalance, physically and emotionally, in different energy pathways. There is a guided relaxation at the end of each session, giving your body and mind some quiet time to process any changes.
Please bring a blanket and cushions if you would like extra comfort.
Karina Cox qualified as a clinical aromatherapist with Gabriel Mojay in 2007, since completing studies at Neal's Yard Remedies and the Bach Centre. In 2011, she qualified as a yoga instructor and have since trained with Sarah Powers on her Insight Yoga teacher training intensive programme. Karina has just completed training with Jennifer Young in massage and aromatherapy for people with cancer.
