Saturday 6th May 2.00pm – 3.00pm
The Soul Midwife is a Victorian gothic novel about a girl who sees an angel and how this is interpreted by herself, those around her and society at large. Her journey takes her across Europe. She is incarcerated in an asylum, subject to proto-psychiatric treatment, abused and ignored. Throughout her ordeal she meets spiritualists, seekers of esoteric knowledge, scientists and social reformers. Her journey is one of darkness to self-revelation and is more relevant today than ever as she explores the nature of reality.
This talk is by Ursula Benjamin, ex-Visiting Professor of Clinical Hypnosis at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, who has 25 years of experience working with mental health issues. Her last book, The Source – a manual of everyday magic explored when she herself heard the voice of Mother Ursula Shipton and how this impacted on her reality, changing it forever.
